The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, has recently triggered a major political controversy with his comments about Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Speaking at a Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Executive meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday, he reportedly questioned the sheer number of deities in the Hindu tradition.
Reddy’s remarks included specific references to different deities associated with various aspects of life, such as Lord Hanuman for the unmarried, a different god for those who marry twice, and another god for those who consume alcohol. He also mentioned folk deities like Yellamma, Pochamma, and Maisamma, linking them to specific offerings like toddy or animal sacrifice, and contrasted them with a god for those who eat pappannam (lentils and rice). He was quoted as saying, “How many Gods and Goddesses do Hindus have? Are there three crores? There are all kinds of Gods.” These statements have quickly escalated into a political firestorm.

Opposition Slams CM: Immediate Demands for Apology
The opposition parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), have strongly condemned the Chief Minister’s comments, accusing him of insulting Hindu beliefs and hurting the religious sentiments of crores of people. Both parties have demanded an immediate and unconditional apology from Reddy.
BRS leader Anugula Rakesh Reddy reacted sharply, stating that mocking Hindu deities has become a “fashion” these days. He called Reddy’s comments “unfortunate” for hurting the feelings of Hindus and suggested that the CM was speaking this way only to “impress those he works for.” Rakesh Reddy demanded that Revanth Reddy immediately apologize to the Hindu community.
Similarly, BJP leader Chikoti Praveen expressed outrage, criticizing the Chief Minister for speaking “shamelessly” and demeaning Hindu deities. He questioned how a politician who seeks the votes of Hindus in every election could make such remarks about their Gods. Praveen also demanded that the Chief Minister apologise to the Hindu community without any delay. The political heat around this issue is currently very high, with opposition parties using the remarks to attack the Congress-led state government.

Really dint expect Revanth Reddy to comment like this against Hindu deity’s. It’s totally unwarranted.
And when the administration is divided into different aspects like, Finance, Education, Irrigation etc, why having deity’s for different causes is a problem.
The pity is no one cares about Hindu vote bank, when it is divided & fragmented.
