Khammam: Former Telangana Minister and BRS leader Puvvada Ajay Kumar has strongly countered Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent remarks against him.
Speaking at a press conference, Ajay Kumar questioned whether the three current ministers from the undivided Khammam district (whom he referred to as having “six eyes”) have achieved even a fraction of the development he delivered with his “single eye.” He challenged the team Revanth to showcase any development work they have done that surpasses his own tenure, criticizing them for relying on body shaming and loose talk rather than actual performance.
Reacting sharply to the Chief Minister’s comments at the Jagannadhapuram farmer’s meeting, Ajay Kumar stated that Revanth Reddy, despite frequently boasting about rising from a ZPTC member to Chief Minister, is failing to maintain the dignity of the top post. He accused the Chief Minister of making it a habit to personal attack and body-shame BRS leaders at every public meeting—pointing out how Revanth Reddy targeted Harish Rao’s height, Gangula Kamalakar’s weight, and his own eye condition. Ajay Kumar emphasized that while the Congress leadership has been targeting him for the past two to three years, such comments will not break his morale or confidence.
My Disability Never Stopped Public Service
Sharing his personal struggle, Ajay Kumar revealed that he suffered a severe eye injury in a road accident 32 years ago and has lived with the discomfort ever since. However, he stressed that this physical challenge never hindered his political career or public service. He proudly noted that despite his condition, he campaigned successfully to win as an MLA twice and led the development of the Khammam district. He highlighted that with just one eye, he efficiently coordinated with officials, managed land acquisition, and oversaw the construction of the Sitarama Project to provide irrigation to lakhs of acres. He stated that external appearance never stopped him from serving the public, even during midnight emergencies, and argued that he accomplished far more than what people with normal vision could do.
Hits Back at Congress Government Over Unfulfilled Promises
Turning his focus to political accountability, the BRS leader demanded answers from the ruling Congress party regarding their unfulfilled pre-election promises. He questioned the status of the assurances given during Rahul Gandhi’s public rally in Khammam.
Specifically, he asked why the government has failed to deliver the promised ₹2,000 monthly pension for women, ₹4,000 pension for the elderly, and the one tola of gold under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme. He also questioned the delays in the farm loan waiver and the implementation of the Rythu Bharosa financial assistance.
Dismisses CM’s Bhadrachalam Flood Claims
Finally, Ajay Kumar dismissed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s claims that filling the Kaleshwaram reservoir would submerge Bhadrachalam town and 44 surrounding villages. He termed the allegations baseless, pointing out that Bhadrachalam remained safe even when the Godavari River witnessed massive inflows of 25 lakh cusecs in 2022 and 17 lakh cusecs in 2023. Recalling how he personally monitored the flood situation during those years, the former minister explained that filling Kaleshwaram would only lead to an inflow of about 1 lakh cusecs, which poses absolutely no threat to Bhadrachalam.
