Enter Raghu (Rajesh Khanna), who joins the household as the new cook, or ‘Bawarchi.’ Raghu is no ordinary servant; he is a cheerful, philosophical man who decides to take on the family’s deep-seated ego problems and petty squabbles.

Through his infectious optimism and indirect methods, Raghu begins to restore harmony. His most memorable success is seen when he sings Hindustani music, prompting the two young women to dance. Their insistence that the older ladies join them leads to a surprising result: one of the ladies, who suffered from a long-standing knee problem, finds her mobility restored through the simple joy of dancing. This surprising recovery shocks and delights the entire family, showing the power of happiness over ailment.

Raghu continues his subtle campaign, addressing each member’s personal issues until the house truly earns its name, ‘Shanti Niwas.’ Having accomplished his mission, Raghu quietly departs.
