Rejection of Unilateral Strike Action
Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh – All India Vice President and In-Charge, RRB [Regional Rural Banks] stated that BMS strongly oppose this strike of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU- including AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, and INBOC) due its refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Government of India. The UFBU has announced a three-day nationwide strike on September 28th, 29th, and 30th unilateral way on different reasons.
Constructive Government Intent and Timing
“We at BMS strongly oppose this strike. Our opposition stems from the UFBU’s refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Government of India. The government has consistently demonstrated a constructive and open approach, showing willingness to negotiate key employee demands, including the five-day banking week and the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. Dialogue remains open to secure the necessary department clearances and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for implementation” Sarma said.
Stand of BMS and Organizational Readiness
He said that despite there was a way peaceful negotiations, the UFBU declared a strike during late September—a critical period marking the half-yearly financial closing for the banking sector. As a long-standing constituent of the UFBU, BMS offered to facilitate dialogue directly with the government. However, our proposal was flatly rejected, and BMS was arbitrarily shunted out of the platform. This unfair exclusion is something we will not tolerate. Consequently, BMS has chosen to step out independently. Our core ideology prioritizes direct dialogue and negotiation; a strike is strictly a last resort. Following our exit, seven unions remain within the UFBU—three minority and four majority unions—heavily influenced by communist ideologies.
Commitment to Uninterrupted Service
“We remain resolute in our mission to challenge and reform this confrontational mindset within the banking sector. We firmly believe that resolution comes through conversation, not disruptive agitations”, he said. All our affiliate constituents—including the National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO), Regional Rural Banks (RRB), All India Gramin Bank Workers’ Organisation (AIGWO), and All India Gramin Bank Officers’ Organisation (AIGOO)—are fully prepared to face this situation. Our members will report to work normally on all three days, keeping national interest and public service at the forefront. While the striking unions remain unyielding, we stand equally determined to work, ensure uninterrupted operations, and continue our constructive dialogue with the Government of India.
