Legend holds that the sacred wooden idol floated down the Godavari River enclosed inside a wooden chest (Chandana Petti). Following a divine message received in a dream by a devout Brahmin, local villagers navigated into the river in boats and retrieved the chest where a black eagle (Krishna Garuda) hovered above the waters. Upon opening the chest, they uncovered the exquisite idol holding a mace (Gada), Shankha, and Chakra, accompanied by Goddess Lakshmi. The temple was subsequently established to house this powerful manifestation.
The Sacred Vow: 7 Saturdays and 11 Pradakshinas
The defining feature of the Vadapalli shrine is its distinct ritual for fulfilling personal wishes (Mano Kamyartha Purana). Devotees believe that visiting the temple continuously for Seven Saturdays (Setha Saturdays) and performing 11 circumambulations (Pradakshinas) around the sanctum each visit will ensure the fulfillment of their heartfelt prayers and desires.

Special Pujas & Mudupu: Pilgrims frequently perform Mudupu (tying a sacred token of prayer) to seek relief from hardship, illness, or financial delays, returning to offer special rituals once their prayers are answered.

It is widely recalled by locals and devotees that Sridevi visited the Vadapalli Venkateswara Swamy Temple during a challenging period in her early life and career, offering prayers and observing traditional vows. Legend has it that her wishes were granted following her pilgrimage to Vadapalli, cementing the temple’s reputation far and wide as a sanctum where heartfelt prayers yield divine blessings.
