- Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao Reviews Necessary Action Plan
The Telangana state government has initiated a massive project to transform the historic Bhadrachalam Rama Temple, often revered as the “Dakshina Ayodhya” (Southern Ayodhya). In a recent high-level review meeting, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao met with Endowments Commissioner Harish to finalize the roadmap for the temple’s redevelopment and the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams.

A Master Plan for Temple Expansion
The core of the project involves the expansion of the Mada Streets (the four streets surrounding the temple) and the construction of new Prakarams (compound walls). The current temple structure, which dates back to 1664 when it was built by the legendary devotee Bhakta Ramadasu, needs modernization to accommodate the ever-growing influx of pilgrims.
To ensure historical and spiritual integrity, the expansion plans have been designed by renowned architects in strict accordance with the Agama Shastras (traditional temple scriptures). The district administration of Bhadradri Kothagudem has already completed the necessary land acquisition for the project. The state government has allocated and spent Rs. 34 crore to acquire the required land. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to review the final designs and lay the foundation stone (Shankusthapana) very soon. The government aims to complete the entire expansion within the next three years.

Grand Preparations for Godavari Pushkarams 2027
Beyond the temple construction, Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao emphasized the importance of the Godavari Pushkarams, which are scheduled to begin on July 23, 2027. He directed officials to plan the event on a scale comparable to the Kumbh Mela.
Recognizing that millions of devotees will visit Bhadrachalam to take a holy dip in the River Godavari and seek the blessings of Lord Rama, the Minister stressed that arrangements must be flawless. He instructed all departments to begin preliminary work on:
- Bathing Ghats: Expanding and renovating ghats for safe holy dips.
- Amenities: Providing quality drinking water, sanitation, and medical camps.
- Infrastructure: Improving transport facilities and building temporary accommodation centers for pilgrims.
The Minister Thummala particularly highlighted the need for high standards of sanitation to prevent health issues during the massive gathering. Drawing from his personal experience overseeing the Pushkarams in 2003 and 2015, he urged officials to ensure that the event enhances the prestige of the state government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership.
Upcoming Sri Rama Navami
With the immediate future in mind, the Minister also reviewed the arrangements for the upcoming Sri Rama Navami celebrations in March. He instructed the Endowments Department to ensure that the thousands of devotees attending the celestial wedding (Kalyanam) of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita face no hardships.
