Joy Magenta – A Smile, the Eternal Medicine
Global Wellness Day 2026 – The Eternal Truth Told by India’s Way of Life
“Only when the roots of a tree are strong do its branches remain green. In the same way, only when a child’s early years are rooted in family, culture, and the blessings of elders can that child grow into a healthy and happy human being.”
Once upon a time…There was a small village. At the break of dawn, the rooster crowed. In the courtyard, near the sacred Tulasi plant, Grandmother lit the morning lamp. Grandfather was watering the plants in the yard. In the kitchen, a clay pot gently boiled over the fire. Birds chirped happily from the trees.
In that house, a little two-year-old child woke up. The moment he opened his eyes, he ran into his grandmother’s lap. She softly sang a lullaby. Grandfather smiled and called, “Come, my little one… Let us see how many parrots have come today.” For the little child, it was not an ordinary morning. It was his very first school. It was his first temple. It was his first hospital. It was his first gurukul. It was his first wellness centre.
Because…Health does not begin inside a hospital. It first grows in the courtyard of our own home. At that very moment…The whole world was sharing a beautiful message. Every year in the month of June, nations across the world celebrate Global Wellness Day. On 13 June 2026, this worldwide movement entered its fifteenth year.
This year, the entire world echoed one simple message—Joy Magenta
It means—“Choose joy. Love life. Bring people closer together.”
Magenta is not merely a colour. It is the colour of hope. The colour of love.
The colour of confidence. The colour of the smile that blossoms on a human face.
But…Indian culture had been living this truth thousands of years ago. Our elders did not raise children merely by reading books. They raised them by reading life itself. The stories of the Ramayana…The Mahabharata…The Panchatantra…
Planted the seeds of courage, honesty, kindness, forgiveness, and patience in the hearts of children. Grandfather showed them nature. “That is a crow… That is a cuckoo… This is a mango tree… This is a neem tree…” Every day, he taught one new lesson. Those lessons had no examinations. No marks. No ranks. Yet…They contained wisdom that would guide a person throughout life.
Today, the world speaks about yoga…Exercise…Healthy food…Mental peace…And human relationships. But in the traditional Indian family, all these were already a natural part of daily life. For a small child, health did not mean medicines. It did not mean expensive toys. It meant a loving grandmother. A grandfather who carried him on his shoulders. A mother who lovingly fed him. A father who gave him courage. These were the first steps towards true health.
Today…Our homes have everything. There is a television. There is a mobile phone. There is a car. There is an air conditioner. But…There is no peaceful sleep. There is no calmness. There is no time to speak with family. There is no leisure to sit under the shade of a tree. Children listening to grandmother’s stories are becoming fewer. Grandchildren walking beside their grandfather are becoming rare.
The whole world has entered a small screen. But…The human heart has become lonely. That is why the world is searching for a new medicine. Its name is—Wellness. But…That medicine has always been present in the courtyard of our own home.
Its name is—Love.

Its name is—Family. Its name is— A Smile. Its name is— Culture.
Its name is—Nature. In that village… Whenever anyone came to the old man carrying sorrow…He never handed them bottles of medicine. He never opened great medical books. He simply smiled and asked, “Did you smile today, my child?” The visitor would be surprised. “Grandfather, can a smile fill an empty stomach?”
The old man smiled gently and replied, “Food fills the stomach… But only a smile fills the heart.” Within that one sentence…The entire message of Joy Magenta was hidden. The little child listened to the old man’s words and thought for a while. Then he innocently asked, “Grandfather… What is wellness?”
The old man pointed towards the courtyard. He pointed to the sacred Tulasi plant. He pointed to the sparrows chirping happily on the branches. He pointed to the pot of rice gently cooking in the kitchen. He pointed to Grandmother. He pointed to Mother. He pointed to Father. Then, with a gentle smile, he said, “My child… All these together are called wellness.”
What is wellness?
It is not merely living without disease. The body should remain active. The mind should remain peaceful. The family should remain happy. Friends should remain close. Nature should remain with us. We should remain connected with society. Only when all these come together can there be complete health. That is what the world says today.
But…Our elders had already been practising it for generations. Grandmother’s kitchen was also a healing place. She added turmeric. She added ginger. She added cumin. She added curry leaves. She cooked with sesame seeds and lentils. She may never have heard the words “organic food.” Yet she knew that food close to nature is the food that gives health.
Before eating, everyone washed their hands. They bowed before God. They treated food as sacred. The whole family sat together and shared the meal. These were not merely customs. They were medicines that brought hearts together. After the meal…The children ran outside. They climbed trees. They played in the soil. They danced in the rain. They watched birds near the village pond. In the evening, the entire village played games together. There were no mobile phones. There were no video games. Nature was the teacher. Play was the exercise. A smile was the medicine. Friendship was the greatest wealth.
Global Wellness Day says exactly the same thing. This year, it gave the world five simple messages. Be joyful. Walk a little every day. Speak with love. Become friends with trees. Live with gratitude. They sound like very small sentences. But they are great principles that can change an entire life.
Just then, the little child asked another question. “Grandfather… Does that mean the world is now learning what we already knew?” The old man smiled warmly. “My child… Our ancestors read nature as their greatest book. Life itself was their teacher. What the world now calls ‘wellness,’ they simply called ‘healthy living.’”
Health experts across the world also shared another beautiful principle.
Its name is—SMILE

Within these five letters lies a beautiful secret of healthy living. The old man took a small stick and wrote the word SMILE on the ground. The little child looked at it with curiosity. “Grandfather… What does it mean?” The old man pointed to each letter one by one. S means Smile. “Smile as many times as you can every day, my child. A smile costs no money. Yet it gives health. Your smile does not brighten only your own life…It lights up the lives of everyone around you.” Then he continued.
M means Move.
“Keep your body moving. Walk. Run. Water the plants. Work in the garden. Play with children. When the body moves, the mind also becomes alive.” The little child smiled and asked, “Grandfather… Does that mean play itself is medicine?” The old man laughed gently. “Yes, my child… Play is the very first exercise.”
Just then Grandmother came out of the kitchen. “Come… The hot meal is ready,” she called lovingly. The old man placed his hand on the child’s shoulder and said, “Come, my child… I shall tell you the rest of the lesson about health while we eat together.” The little boy happily ran inside the house. That day, another lesson began for him. Not from a book…But from life itself
Joy Magenta – A Smile, the Eternal Medicine Global Wellness Day 2026 – The Eternal Truth Told by India’s Way of Life Grandmother served steaming hot rice on the banana leaf. Beside it she placed lentils, ghee, vegetables, and fresh curd. Grandfather seated the little child beside him.
As he gently mixed the rice, he asked, “My child… You have learnt to smile. You have learnt to walk. Now shall we learn how to keep the heart and mind healthy?” The little boy’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. Grandfather once again pointed to the word SMILE that he had written on the ground. “So far I have explained two letters. Now listen to the remaining three.”
I means Inspire.
“Read a good book. Speak a good word. Encourage another person. Extend a helping hand to someone in difficulty. There is no greater education than becoming a good human being.” Grandmother smiled and added, “One lamp can light another lamp without losing its own light. In the same way, one kind word can light hope in another person’s heart.” The little child nodded quietly.
L means Love and Listen.
Grandfather said, “My child… Everyone knows how to love. But not everyone knows how to listen. Today, everyone is speaking. Very few are listening. Listening patiently to another person’s sorrow is also a great medicine.” Grandmother gently added,
“The ears hear words. The heart hears the person.”
E means Enjoy Every Moment.
Grandfather pointed towards the sky.
A cuckoo was singing on the branch of a tree. A gentle breeze was blowing.
“Do you see that, my child? Birds do not worry about tomorrow’s grains. Trees do not become sad remembering yesterday’s heat. Nature lives in the present moment. Human beings too must learn to enjoy this very day.” The meal was over. Grandmother served cool buttermilk. Grandfather continued, “Health experts across the world have suggested a few simple daily habits. They are not really new. They have been part of our homes for generations.” Sleep peacefully for seven or eight hours every night. Drink plenty of water.
Eat natural and balanced food.
Spend some time every day away from mobile phones and television. Eat together as a family. Walk in nature at least once every week. Help those who are in need. Smile wholeheartedly every day. “These are not medicines that create health, my child. These are the habits that keep us healthy.” The little child softly asked, “Grandfather… Who taught all these things?” The old man smiled gently and replied, “Today, health experts across the world are teaching them. But our sages and elders lived these truths thousands of years ago.” He then spoke with quiet reverence,
“Health is the greatest wealth.”
Then he recited another ancient saying, “Shariram Adyam Khalu Dharma Sadhanam.” He explained, “A healthy body is the first instrument through which we perform our duties and lead a meaningful life.” Then he remembered the immortal teaching of the Bhagavad Gita.
He slowly recited, ‘Yuktahara-viharasya, Yukta-cheshtasya karmasu, Yukta-svapnavabodhasya, Yogo bhavati duhkha-ha.’ Then he explained its meaning.
“Moderation in food… Moderation in work… Moderation in recreation… Moderation in sleep… This balanced way of living removes sorrow and brings true well-being.” The little child looked at him with wonder. “Grandfather… Does that mean what the world today calls wellness has always been present in our own home?” The old man’s eyes shone with happiness.
“Yes, my child. Today the world gives it a new name. Our culture simply made it a way of life.” Evening slowly arrived. The sun disappeared behind the western hills. The birds returned to their nests. A lamp was lit in the courtyard. In its gentle light, Grandmother, Grandfather, Mother, Father, and the little child all sat together. There were no expensive possessions in that home. But there was love. There was affection. There were smiles. That was their true wealth. That was true wellness –
The Eternal Truth Told by India’s Way of Life
Night slowly embraced the village. One by one, the stars appeared in the sky. The small lamp that Grandmother had lit before the sacred Tulasi plant quietly shone, driving away the darkness. Grandmother once again took the little child into her lap. Grandfather looked towards the sky and gently asked, “My child… What have you learnt today?” The little boy smiled. Counting on his tiny fingers, he began to answer. “We must smile…” “We must walk…” “We must love…” “We must listen…” “We must enjoy every moment of life…” Grandfather nodded with happiness. “That is exactly what the whole world today calls Joy Magenta.”
Then Grandfather told one final story.

“There was once a king who possessed great wealth. He had gold. He had silver. He had a magnificent palace. Yet he had no peaceful sleep. He had no peace of mind.” “In the same kingdom lived a farmer. Every evening he shared a meal with his family. He laughed with his children. Every morning he woke to the songs of birds. Every night he slept peacefully.” “One day the king asked the farmer, ‘You have no riches. Then why are you so happy?’”
The farmer smiled and replied, “Your Majesty, you have wealth. I have happiness. You live in a palace. I live in the lap of nature. You protect your gold. I protect my relationships.” Grandfather placed his hand gently upon the child’s head and said, “My child… The secret of health lies within this story.”
Health means…Not merely the absence of disease.
Health means…Grandmother’s lullaby. Grandfather’s wisdom. A mother’s love. A father’s reassurance. The affection shared among family members. The companionship of friends. Living in harmony with nature. Remaining connected with society. When all these come together, that is complete health. Today…Human beings have walked upon the Moon. They have created Artificial Intelligence. They have brought the entire world into the palm of their hand through a mobile phone. Yet…They have lost the time to sit with their families in the courtyard.
They have lost Grandmother’s stories. They have lost Grandfather’s wisdom. They have lost the laughter of children. They have lost their close relationship with nature. That is why the world is once again looking back. It is looking back towards the family. It is looking back towards nature. It is looking back towards a smile.
That is the true message of Global Wellness Day 2026.
Joy Magenta means…Not merely a colour. It is a philosophy of life. It is a culture of the family. It is a movement for the whole world. Choosing joy. Making health a daily habit. Sharing love. Protecting nature. Bringing people closer together. Smiling wholeheartedly every single day. Today the world is searching for health.
Indian culture gently smiles and says, “Health is not something we buy… It is something we nurture.” “Health does not begin in a hospital… It begins in the courtyard of our own home.” “A child’s first healers are not doctors… They are parents, grandparents, and elders.” “A child’s first university is not a school… It is the family.” Therefore… Let us honour our elders.
Let us spend time with our children. Let us love nature. Let us sit together and eat as one family. Let us walk a little every day. Let us eat simple, natural food. Let us listen patiently to one another. Let us help those who are in need. Let us share one heartfelt smile every day.
Smile is a Treasure

Because… A smile is not a medicine that must be purchased. It is a treasure that never decreases when shared. The more we give it, the more it grows. It is the bridge that connects hearts. It is the strength that keeps families together. It is the culture that builds a healthy society.
The little lamp of health that is first lit in the courtyard of a home…Lights up one family. One family lights up one village. One village lights up one nation. One nation becomes a guiding light for the whole world. Then Joy Magenta will no longer remain merely a slogan. It will blossom as the Indian way of life, living in every smile, in every child’s laughter, in every grandmother’s lullaby, in every grandfather’s blessing, and in the heart of every family. That is the timeless message that Global Wellness Day 2026 has given to the world.
“The true home of health… is the courtyard of our own home.”
