Telangana Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has made sensational claims regarding phone tapping in the state. Speaking to the media in Khammam on Tuesday, he alleged that phone tapping is not just a thing of the past but is still actively continuing today. He expressed serious concern over how private telephone conversations are being leaked to certain individuals, questioning how this would be possible without active surveillance.
The Minister warned that the government is taking this issue very seriously and is currently investigating the masterminds behind these operations. He stated that authorities are tracking down the specialized equipment used for tapping, whether it is hidden in farmhouses or mango groves. Minister Ponguleti emphasized that the law will take its course and those responsible no matter how influential will face strict action.

Winning Confidence
Aside from the tapping controversy, Minister Ponguleti spoke about the upcoming municipal elections on February 11, 2026. He expressed high confidence that the Congress party would win over 80% of the municipalities. He credited this to the government’s work over the last two years and dismissed opposition attacks as mere frustration.
Responding to other political questions, he clarified three key points:
- Employee Outreach: He defended his decision to ask government employees for votes, stating they are citizens and voters like everyone else.
- CPI Alliance: He described the competition with the CPI in some areas as a “friendly fight” and confirmed that their political alliance remains strong.
- No CM Race: Ponguleti addressed rumors about his leadership goals, stating clearly that he is not in the race to be the Chief Minister and is simply a dedicated worker for the Congress party.
