Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, the CPI Telangana State Secretary and Kothagudem MLA, has expressed serious concern over the Central Government’s suppression of dissenting voices. Speaking at a media briefing at Giri Prasad Bhavan, in Khammam on Friday, he remarked that given the current political climate, he suspects he might also be arrested under sedition charges (treason). However, he emphasized that he is not afraid of such arrests and will continue to fight for the people.
Criticism of Government Policies
The MLA Kunamneni accused the BJP-led government of branding anyone who questions their policies as “Urban Naxals” and throwing them in jail. He argued that even during British rule, citizens had certain rights, which are now being taken away by the current administration. He criticized both the Central and State governments for similar approaches in crushing civil rights, specifically highlighting the dissolution of labor unions in Telangana RTC and the privatization of Singareni Collieries. He clarified that the CPI is currently working with the Congress party to prevent the BJP from retaining power.

Legacy of the Communist Party
Reflecting on the 100-year journey of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Kunamneni stated that while Mahatma Gandhi led the independence movement, it was revolutionary heroes who provided its core strength. He reminded everyone that the slogan “Inquilab Zindabad” was first given by Hasrat Mohani and later popularized globally by Bhagat Singh. He took pride in the fact that landmark policies like the nationalization of banks, land reforms, the Right to Information (RTI) Act, and the MGNREGA scheme were the results of long-standing Communist struggles.
Khammam Ready for Historic CPI Centenary Finale

Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao stated that the CPI’s centenary closing ceremony, scheduled for January 18th in Khammam, will be a landmark event in history. He invited the public to participate in large numbers at the SR&BGNR College Grounds. The meeting will see CPI National Secretary D. Raja and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy sharing the stage. Kunamneni believes this gathering will pave the way for solving public issues and strengthening the Communist movement in its second century.
Commitment to Future Struggles
CPI National Secretary Prakash Babu highlighted that while the centenary celebrations began in Kanpur on December 24, 2024, they are reaching a grand conclusion in Khammam, often called the “Communist Fort.” He emphasized that the party has spent 100 years protecting civil rights and welfare and is fully prepared to continue its struggle with the same ideology. He asserted that only Communists have the power to stop communal forces in the country.
Mega Rallies and Processions
Bagam Hemantha Rao, General Secretary of the Reception Committee, shared details regarding the massive processions planned for the event. Three separate rallies will start at 2:00 PM and converge at the meeting venue:
- First Rally: Led by Takkellapalli Srinivasa Rao and Bagam Hemantha Rao, starting from the Pavilion Grounds with the Jana Sevadal and various artists’ unions.
