The Congress High Command has moved quickly to contain a brewing internal conflict involving Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Minister for Forests, Environment, and Endowments Konda Surekha. The dispute centers on Meenakshi Natarajan, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Telangana, intervened by calling Surekha and inviting her for a meeting. During the conversation, Surekha reportedly detailed “humiliating experiences,” citing the suspension of Sumanth and alleged interference in her ministry by other state ministers.
Natarajan reportedly managed to convince Surekha not to make any public statements about the issue, promising to address her concerns. Surekha is also alleged to have informed the AICC in-charge about police arriving at her home to arrest N. Sumanth and the subsequent withdrawal of her personal police protection. Natarajan listened patiently and assured the Minister that the problems would be resolved.
Deputy CM’s Role and Surekha’s Absence in the Cabinet
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also became involved, attempting to pacify Surekha and urging her not to take any drastic action. Despite these efforts, Surekha did not attend Thursday’s Cabinet meeting and returned to her residence in the state capital. It is learnt that Bhatti involved in the issue on behalf of Chief Minister.
Party Concerns and Counter-Allegations
The AICC is taking the matter seriously, mindful of the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election and the ongoing BC reservation issue. Adding to the tension, Surekha’s daughter, Sushmitha, made public allegations against the Chief Minister, his brothers, and his close associate, Rohin Reddy and CM’s political advisor V Narender Reddy. This public statement reportedly angered the CM. Furthermore, the Chief Minister is said to have “reliable information” that Minister Surekha had directly complained against him to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior party leaders. The party’s quick action suggests a determination to restore harmony and focus ahead of crucial political challenges. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the issue will be settled soon and the party is working on it.
