- Congress’s GP victories dipped below 52 per cent
- The ruling party had a very poor showing in Siddipet and Janagaon Districts
- Other parties and independent candidates won 578 GPs
- BJP gained in 257 gram panchayats
- The BRS recorded an impressive show, securing 1,191 GPs
The results of the second phase of the Gram Panchayat (GP) elections have shown a further dip in the Congress party’s performance. The national party witnessed a winning percentage of 51.9% in the second phase, a significant drop from 67.94% in the first phase elections. Prime Post obtained the results for 4,332 gram panchayats contested in the second phase. In the second phase, Congress bagged 2,297 Gram Panchayats. This contrasts with 1,191 GPs won by the BRS, 257 by BJP-backed candidates, and 578 by others (Independents/smaller parties). This outcome is considered a little upset to the ruling party, particularly due to their poor showing in the North Telangana districts.
Second Phase Results Show Further Congress Dip

Congress recorded a poor showing in the following districts: Jangaon, Siddipet and Komaram Bheem. In these areas, the number of Gram Panchayats (GPs) won by Congress was below 50 per cent. Conversely, the party bagged more GPs than BRS in 27 districts including Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Nalgonda, Medak, Kamareddy, Rajanna-Siricilla, Hanumakonda, Jagtial, Jayashankar-Bhupalpally, Nirmal, Manchiryala, Mahaboobnagar, Mahaboobabad, Vanaparthi, Gadwala, Mulugu, Warangal, Adilabad, Narayanapet, Nagar kurnool, Warangal, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Peddapalli, Ranga Reddy, Khammam, Karimnagar, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri. But In these districts, the winning percentage was 51.9 per cent. “Interestingly, Congress won less than 50 percent of the GPs in districts like Adilabad, Ranga Reddy, Karimnagar, Rajanna-Siricilla, Medak, and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, when the results of all opposition parties were considered together.” The Prime Post made hint of farmers’ anger on the government in the first phase. Such agony unearthed more in second phase. Is it an alarming bell to the Revanth Reddy’s government?
BRS Proves Resilient, Secures 1,191 GPs
Interestingly, the BRS proved its strength in the second phase by winning 1,191 Gram Panchayats. BRS leaders adjusted their strategy for the second phase, focusing on stronger campaigning. For example, former minister T. Harish Rao worked hard, resulting in the BRS winning 107 panchayats compared to only 26 for Congress. The BRS showed a stellar performance in the district. Furthermore, the people in Ranga Reddy District showed opposition to Congress by giving them only 70 GPs, versus 108 that went to other parties.
