- BRS is still strong in Raghunathapalem
- Congress score highest majority votes of 1446 in Konigerla
- Wyra mandal turns strong basin for Congress
- Badyathanda BRS candidate won with one vote
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has demonstrated that it still retains a base in Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts, a fact proven in the gram panchayat elections held on December 11. TDP had not fielded its candidates in either the 2023 assembly elections or the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Instead, it extended its support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana as a partner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
TDP’s Key Victory
In Pedagopathi, a major gram panchayat in Konigerla mandal, Khammam district, the Telugu Desam candidate Velanati Suneeta was elected as Sarpanch with a majority of 1,259 votes. Suneeta’s victory shocked Congress and BRS leaders in the district. Although the elections were not officially held on a party basis, Suneeta campaigned as a TD leader.

Surprising Support: Interestingly, the BJP, BRS, CPI, and CPI-M all extended their support to her. Even the Congress cadre supported her, despite two Congress-backed candidates being in the fray. Family Legacy: Suneeta is the daughter-in-law of Velanati Appaiah, an erstwhile TD leader who worked hard to strengthen the party in Khammam district.
