“The workforce faces vulnerable conditions.”
The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), a major labor organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has announced a nationwide protest across all district headquarters on August 17, 2026. This decision was finalized during the BMS National Executive Committee meeting held from July 26 to 28, 2026, at the Sarala Birla University campus in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Presided over by BMS All India President S. Mallesham, the meeting was attended by key leaders, including General Secretary Surendra Kumar Pandey, Organizing Secretary B. Surendran, and state representatives such as Andhra Pradesh General Secretary MVS Naidu and Organizing Secretary K. Lova Reddy. Speaking on the initiative, MVS Naidu highlighted that Indian workers continue to face vulnerable conditions and low earnings due to a lack of earnestness in implementing labor demands. To address these persistent issues, BMS formulated a structured nationwide agitation plan to advocate for the rights of workers, contract laborers, and women in the workforce.
Key Demands and Financial Reforms
The BMS National Executive Committee has urged the Union Government to take immediate action on a comprehensive list of financial and structural reforms:
Social Security and Pension Limits: Double the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) wage ceiling from Rs 21,000 to Rs 42,000, raise the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) wage limit from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000, and boost the minimum EPF monthly pension from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.
Bonus and Gratuity Caps: Enhance the bonus calculation limit fromRs 7,000 to Rs 18,000, expand the bonus eligibility wage ceiling to Rs 42,000, and double the maximum tax-free gratuity limit from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 40 lakh.
Wage Standards and Worker Welfare: Establish a universal minimum wage of Rs 30,000, ensure equal pay for equal work for contract laborers, and increase honorariums for scheme workers, including Anganwadi and ASHA workers.
Labor and Banking Reforms: Remove provisions deemed anti-labor from the newly introduced Labor Codes and implement a standardized five-day work week across the banking sector.
