Former Minister and BRS leader Puvvada Ajay Kumar launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Telangana government following the forceful demolition of shelters in the Bhoodan lands in Velugumatla in Khammam. A “Brutal” Crackdown on the Poor
The controversy centers on approximately 60 acres of Bhoodan land in the Velugumatla area, where nearly 600 impoverished families have resided for over a decade. According to Ajay Kumar, the pre-dawn operation—conducted using JCBs and thousands of police personnel—was an “inhumane and undemocratic” act that rendered hundreds homeless in an instant. He highlighted that these families have been peacefully advocating for land titles (pattas) and navigating legal channels for ten years. The sudden eviction, he argued, exposes the “true colors” of a government that targets the weak rather than protecting them.
Allegations of Real Estate Collusion
The former Minister leveled serious allegations against the current District Minister, Tummala Nageswara Rao. Ajay Kumar claimed the police acted under the Minister’s direct orders to clear the land for the benefit of private real estate developers and political associates. “The government is using the guise of a High Court stay to facilitate land grabs by real estate interests close to the District Minister,” Ajay Kumar alleged.
The Path Forward: Legal and Democratic Resistance
Standing in solidarity with the displaced residents, Ajay Kumar vowed that the BRS party would not remain silent. As a former MLA and District Minister, he pledged to intensify the movement through legal and democratic means to ensure justice for the victims. He demanded the State government immediate cessation to all ongoing demolition activities in the area and the immediate issuance of land pattas to all eligible poor families. He said that the public would “teach them a lesson” to the Congress government for abusing power and the police system to further private interests. “There is no scope to the poor in Congress rule to build a small hut to live”, he said.
