Ahead of the Kothagudem municipal elections, the Congress party faced a significant setback as two of its key local leaders defected to the BRS party. Former councillor Bhima Sridhar and woman leader Srivalli joined BRS from Congress on Wednesday.

The joining ceremony took place at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, where BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) formally welcomed them into the fold by draping them with the party scarves. The transition was facilitated by former minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar and Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra. Several other prominent BRS figures, including former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Jangaon MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, were also present at the event to mark the occasion.
