- Contempt proceedings on ticket price hike
The film “Mana Sankara Varaprasad Garu” matted into legal trouble over the decision of Telangana Government allowing the film makers to increase ticket price. The High Court negated to award to the film production house M/S Shine Screens India LLP, which was tested January 20 order of a single judge directing that any proposed hike in movie ticket prices be disclosed at least 90 days before a film’s release.
The court has taken a stern view of the government’s intervention, viewing the price hike as a direct violation of prior judicial orders. This case sets a critical precedent for the Tollywood industry. While big-budget films starring icons like Chiranjeevi often seek price hikes to recover costs, the court’s insistence on a 90-day notice period suggests a move toward greater transparency and consumer protection.
The Film earned Rs 358 crore so far
The film’s worldwide gross so far is Rs 358 Crore including India net domestic is Rs 197 .35 crore, India Gross as Rs 232.67 Crore, overseas Gross Rs 41 Crore and theatrical rights Rs 110 crore. The budget of the film is Rs 200 crore.

High Court Responds on Suo Motu case
A bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G M Mohiddin directed the production house to approach Single Judge Court, where concerned matters are already pending. Shine Screens had filed an appeal against the single Judge’s order, which was passed while hearing a suo motu contempt case. The court had taken serious note of the government’s decision permitting a hike in ticket prices for the recent tollywood release of the film starring Chirranjeevi and Nayanathara and Anil Ravipudi as director, in violation of High Court orders.

The Single Judge court had initiated contempt proceedings against C V Anand, Special Chief Secretary (Home) for allegedly issuing orders to increase ticket price. The Judge directed if the government proposes to permit a ticket price hike for any film in future, the decision must be placed in the public domain before 90 days of film’s release. Such action would enable aggrieved or interested parties to avail statutory remedies under Section 7A of the Telangana Cinemas Regulation Act, including by filing suitable applications or legal suits, the court observed.
As of January 28, 2026, Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu has solidified its position as a historic commercial success for Chiranjeevi and the production house, Shine Screens. Despite the legal turbulence regarding ticket price hikes, the film has leveraged the Sankranti festive season to post massive numbers.
