The violation of Oath by male partner
Son takes hard decisions against his father
The film, directed by Yash Chopra with music by Khayyam, is an emotional drama featuring a stellar ensemble cast, including Amitabh Bachchan (Vijay), Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar (R.K. Gupta), Waheeda Rehman (Shanti), Rakhee Gulzar, Poonam Dhillon (Kusum Gupta), Sachin, and Prem Chopra.
The story centers on R.K. Gupta and Shanti, who are deeply in love and plan to marry. However, when R.K. Gupta’s boss proposes that he marry his daughter and take over the business, R.K.’s mother pressures him to choose wealth and power. Succumbing to his mother’s insistence, R.K. marries his boss’s daughter, abandoning the pregnant Shanti. Shanti leaves, gives birth to a son, Vijay, and raises him with a single, burning directive: never forgive his father for denying her mother.
Try to fulfill his mother’s dying wish

Driven by his mother’s dying wish, the adult Vijay arrives in Delhi with a singular goal: to destroy his father’s business empire. He starts a rival real estate business, determined to meticulously dismantle R.K. Gupta’s legacy. Vijay is relentless, eventually managing to acquire all of R.K. Gupta’s property, leaving his father financially bankrupt.
Family Turmoil and Isolation -The Climax Realization –
The truth about Vijay being R.K. Gupta’s illegitimate son eventually comes to light. This revelation leads to R.K. Gupta’s wife and legitimate children including his son, played by Shashi Kapoor abandoning him, leaving him completely isolated. Adding to the drama, Vijay champions the love between R.K.’s daughter, Kusum, and her suitor, Sachin, even performing their marriage against R.K.’s wishes.
Father realized son’s pain finally
In desperation, R.K. Gupta hires the gangster Prem Chopra to kill Vijay. However, a final, heartbreaking realization dawns on R.K.—the man he hired to kill is his own son. Simultaneously, Shashi Kapoor’s character learns that Vijay is his half-brother and joins forces with him. The film culminates in a confrontation where R.K. Gupta sacrifices himself, dying in a fight with Prem Chopra and his gang, finding a tragic redemption in his final moments. Before that, Gupta realized the agony of Vijay. Accolades –Direction: The film is heralded for its superb direction by Yash Chopra. Music: The success is also attributed to the soulful and acclaimed music composed by Khayyam.

Well written review reminding us of another gem from the past. Another one from ‘Angry young man’ Amitabh’s iconic filmography.
Thank You Very Much Sir
Superb direction. Highly Emotional Drama. Soulful Music by Khayyam. The Performances of Amitabh, Sanjeev Kumar and Shashi Kapoor Are Extra Ordinary.
Musically super hit. I like the songs very well. Khayyam very well done.
Thank You.
A multistarrer of the Amitabh heyday which haunts for the songs and brief acting interludes. The storyline just keeps waning as the movie progresses.
