Nageswara Rao -A Decades-Long Political Career
Tummala Nageswara Rao, the current Minister for Agriculture, Marketing, Cooperation, Handlooms, and Textiles, has achieved a remarkable and perhaps unprecedented feat in his four-decade-long political career. He is set to become the only minister in India to have played a pivotal role in the construction or allocation of a permanent district office for three different political parties he has served.
This incredible story speaks volumes about Minister Nageswara Rao’s sincerity, dedication, and deep commitment to party organization, irrespective of his political affiliation at the time. He has consistently worked hard to ensure the perfect on-ground implementation of government policies and, notably, to provide robust infrastructure for his respective party workers.
A Journey of Across Political Landscapes
Nageswara Rao’s political journey saw him rise through the ranks of three major parties in undivided Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP): Inspired by N. T. Rama Rao, Nageswara Rao began his career with the TDP, successfully contesting and winning from the Sattupalli assembly constituency in 1985, 1994, and 1999, and later from Khammam in 2009. During this phase, he focused on building organizational strength. He was instrumental in securing land allocation around 2000 and subsequently oversaw the completion of a spectacular TDP district office building in Khammam by 2001.
Rao’s Hard Work Regardless of Party Affiliation

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) / BRS. He later shifted allegiance to the TRS (now BRS), being elected as an MLC in 2014 and winning the Palair assembly by-election in 2016. While serving as a minister in the TRS government, Nageswara Rao utilized his good offices to ensure the allocation of land for the party. He then spearheaded the construction of a fine district office building for the TRS in Khammam, completed in 2016.
Indian National Congress (INC)

In 2023, Nageswara Rao contested and won the Khammam assembly constituency as a Congress party candidate and was inducted into Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s cabinet. As the sitting legislator, he quickly noted the poor condition of the six-decade-old District Congress Committee (DCC) office on Wyra Road.
Bringing the matter to the attention of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Nageswara Rao secured a significant victory: the allocation of one acre of land in the NSP quarters area in Khammam for a new DCC office.
Efforts are now underway to commence construction. Once completed, this will mark the third party building whose existence in Khammam is directly attributable to the organizational efforts of Tummala Nageswara Rao. His remarkable organizational focus and influence—transcending party lines cement his status as one of Telangana’s most effective and unique political leaders.
