A major clash has erupted between the political and cinema worlds of the Telugu states, as Telangana Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy issued a severe warning to Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and popular actor Pawan Kalyan. The minister firmly stated that none of Pawan Kalyan’s films would be allowed to release or screen in Telangana unless he tenders a public, unconditional apology for his recent controversial remarks concerning Konaseema.
The controversy began when Pawan Kalyan, during a visit to the Konaseema region in Andhra Pradesh, reportedly claimed that the local coconut groves and development were suffering because of the “evil eye” of the Telangana people. This comment quickly sparked widespread outrage and criticism across Telangana, with political leaders arguing that it was highly provocative and insulting, especially more than a decade after the state’s formation.
Speaking to the media, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy did not mince words. He stressed that he was issuing the warning in his official capacity as the Cinematography Minister. He categorically stated that Pawan Kalyan must understand the sentiments of the people of Telangana, who felt deeply hurt by his statement. Venkat Reddy pointed out that Telangana, particularly Hyderabad, is the main hub for the Telugu film industry, and its audiences have a strong bond with actors. The minister contrasted Pawan Kalyan’s controversial comments with the conduct of his elder brother, Megastar Chiranjeevi, whom he described as a “sober man” who always stays away from political disputes and controversy.
Venkat Reddy issued a clear ultimatum: “If Pawan Kalyan apologises, his movies will be allowed to screen for a couple of days in the Nizam region (Telangana). If he does not, none of his films will be permitted to be screened here.” Other Telangana ministers and MLAs from the Congress party also joined the chorus, demanding an apology and condemning the Jana Sena chief’s remarks as lacking political maturity and being irresponsible. Some leaders even questioned why Pawan Kalyan continues to live and work from Hyderabad if he believes Telangana has an “evil eye” on Andhra Pradesh’s prosperity.
‘Janasena’ Appeals Against Distorting Pawan Kalyan’s Comments
On the other hand, the Janasena Party appealed against distorting the remarks made by Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Janasena Party President, Pawan Kalyan. A statement was released to this effect. Janasena mentioned in the statement that the comments he made while interacting with farmers during his visit to the Razole constituency are being distorted. The party requested that his remarks should not be twisted, especially at a time when a cordial atmosphere prevails between the two states.
