Story Details
The story centers on Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), a respected former police officer who successfully captured the notorious and ruthless bandit, Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan), sending him to jail. Consumed by a desire for revenge, Gabbar escapes. He brutally massacres Thakur’s entire family, sparing only his younger daughter-in-law, Radha (Jaya Bhaduri), who was at a temple. When Thakur confronts Gabbar, the bandit retaliates by viciously cutting off both of Thakur’s hands, crippling him and leaving him helpless. Unable to fight Gabbar himself, Thakur seeks out two professional, yet good-hearted, thieves: Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan). He offers them a large sum of money to capture Gabbar and bring him back-alive or dead-to Thakur’s village. Initially annoyed when Thakur tests their strength, Veeru and Jai plan to loot his jewelry and leave. However, they are stopped by Radha, who hands them the keys, telling them to take the jewelry but asking them to honor the pledge to her father-in-law. Moved by this, the two men promise to carry out the task.
During the mission, they develop bonds with the villagers: Veeru falls in love with the talkative tonga-driver Basanti (Hema Malini), and Jai develops a quiet affection for the widowed Radha. The final confrontation is emotional and tragic: Jai loses his life fighting Gabbar. An enraged Veeru attempts to take brutal revenge, but Thakur intervenes, reminding him that the deal was to hand Gabbar over. Thakur takes over the fight and nearly kills Gabbar in a fit of agony. At the last moment, a subordinate police officer arrives, reminding Thakur that killing Gabbar is not the lawful way. Thakur relents and leaves Gabbar to the police, upholding his former commitment to the law.

It’s a timeless classic. This is a debut performance by Amzad Khan (Gabbar Singh). Performed extremely well. Dominated all the characters in the film. All the characters Sanjeev Kumar, Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachhan, Hema Malini and jaya Bhaduri performed extremely well. A special note should be given to music director R. D. Burman as he composed hit music for the film and he sang a song ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ which has become popular even today. By all means it’s the best film.

Sholay undoubtedly a masterpiece. From the Indian perspective, the beauty is moulding a dacoity story, understood to have been originated from western popular movie seven samurai and such as cowboy, Ramesh Sippy opting it and setting it in a such a big way is no less a compromise and eventually spicing it with glamorous starring and awesome music composition by RDB is surely a pride of every native and a big success forever and ever.

Sholay is one of the best movie of hindi cinema. The film was indeed ahead of its time, the action sequences was really good. It has all elements, good dialogues, songs and great performances by Sanjeev Kumar, Dharmendra, Amitabh, Jaya Bhaduri, Hemamalini, Amjad khan. Its a story of friendship, courage, revenge . Sholay movie is a masterpiece of bollywood ,which is remembered for life time.
