Story summary
The story revolves around Bharat (Manoj Kumar), a qualified graduate who is unable to secure a job to support his family, which includes his aged parents and two younger siblings. His younger brother, Mohan (Amitabh Bachchan), succumbs to the pressure of poverty and attempts to earn money through anti-social elements. Bharat, upon discovering this, strongly reprimands Mohan, leading Mohan to seek redemption by joining Military as a soldier.

Meanwhile, Bharat’s love, Sheetal (Zeenat Aman), is forced to accept the marriage proposal of the rich businessman Vijay (Shashi Kapoor) because Bharat’s pledge to marry her only after securing a stable job remains unfulfilled. The film takes a patriotic turn when Mohan loses his hand fighting for the nation in the war, an act that fills Bharat with immense pride. The climax sees Bharat confronting corruption and injustice, ultimately succeeding in reuniting his family and restoring their dignity.

Patriotic Fervor: Manoj Kumar, often dubbed “Bharat Kumar” for his patriotic roles, seamlessly blended a social message with nationalism through Mohan’s character.
Outstanding Performances: The strong performances by the lead actors, particularly Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, and Zeenat Aman, were critically acclaimed and drew large audiences. Iconic Music: The chart-topping soundtrack ensured the film’s continued popularity and appeal.
