Creative Team and Star Cast
Parichay, a cinematic gem from 1972, remains a super hit classic celebrated for its poignant story, masterful direction, and unforgettable music. The film successfully balances themes of childhood mischief, stern discipline, and gentle romance. This acclaimed film was written and directed by the legend Gulzar, showcasing his nuanced storytelling and sensitive handling of relationships. It was produced by V K Sobti.
The central roles were played by a powerful ensemble cast: Jeetendra as the unconventional tutor-Jaya Bhaduri as the eldest of the mischievous children- Pran as the stern but loving grandfather and Colonel Roy Saahab. The film also features memorable friendly appearances by actors Sanjeev Kumar and Vinod Khanna.

The Storyline: A Battle of Wits
The story is centered around Colonel Roy Saahab (Pran), who is desperately trying to find a tutor capable of handling his five extremely mischievous grandchildren, one of whom is played by Jaya Bhaduri. The children have developed a regular and successful habit of misbehaving with and driving away every tutor appointed to them. Desperate for a solution, Colonel Roy appoints a new teacher, played by Jeetendra. Predictably, the children employ all their usual tricks to send him packing.
The Unconventional Tutor
However, Jeetendra’s approach is revolutionary. Instead of shouting or punishing them, he wins their hearts by allowing them to do as they wish and treating them with kindness. He fosters a bond by planning fun activities, including a memorable picnic. His gentle methods successfully break through the children’s rebellious exterior.
Romantic and Emotional Climax
While Colonel Roy is away, Jeetendra receives an urgent letter for a job interview and has to leave, departing without informing the Colonel. This action severely annoyed the Colonel upon his return. Jeetendra later returns to visit the children he grew close to, but he fails to meet Jaya Bhaduri. He leaves with a “half-hearted” feeling. Colonel Roy, discerning and perceptive, correctly guesses her interest and affection for the tutor. Without delay, the Colonel takes Jaya Bhaduri to the railway station and leaves the two of them alone to talk, giving them his blessing for their blossoming romance.
The film reaches its powerful, emotional peak when Jeetendra, trying to connect with her, falls down while getting off the moving train, and Jaya Bhaduri rushes to take him into her arms, resulting in a truly touching and heart-wrenching finale.
Melodies by R. D. Burman
A significant contribution to the film’s lasting success is its iconic soundtrack composed by R. D. Burman. The film gave the audience two great melodies that are still loved today: “Beeti Na Bitayi Raina” (A hauntingly beautiful classic). “Musafir Hu Yaaro” (A philosophical and uplifting number).

Parichay the introduction to the personality who for the sake of subsistence accepts a tough assignment. where pure love finds all answers except for justifying romance. Baki Sab the intriguing phrase dogs the hero and heroine till they get approval from the elder patriarch.
