All poll agencies that conducted exit polls on the Bihar Assembly elections failed to anticipate the massive victory of the NDA. The NDA obtained 203 seats (BJP – 92, JDU – 83, LJP – 19, and Rest – 9) in the Bihar Assembly polls on Friday, November 14, during counting. The Mahagathbandhan bagged only 33 seats (RJD – 25, Congress – 5, and Rest – 3), which was shocking news for them. This result was declared as of 5:50 PM on November 14. RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav wins in Raghopur assembly constituency with 11,000 vote margin.
This marks one of the worst performances by the Congress in Bihar, which won in only five seats. The leaders of the Mahagathbandhan, whodid not foresee the rout in Bihar, were stunned by the result. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the massive victory, attributing it to the development that has taken place under the leadership of Nitish Kumar in Bihar.
Only Matrize gave the highest number of seats, but not the mammoth one. The Matrize poll survey agency predicted the highest range of NDA victory at 147-167 seats and gave 70-90 to the Mahagathbandhan, followed by Dainik Bhaskar, which predicted a range of 145-167 seats for the NDA in its exit poll on November 1. About 145-163 seats were given to the NDA by TIF Research. These three agencies had never assessed the NDA crossing the double century (200-mark) in Bihar. The poll surveys by P-Marg, People’s Pulse, Chanakya Strategies, People’s Insight, JVC, and DV had given far less than the actual figures for the NDA victory in Bihar.
Interestingly, throwing up a close contest, in sharp contrast to all other exit polls so far, Axis My India had predicted that the ruling NDA may even fall short of the majority mark in Bihar. The pollster projected that the NDA would win between 121 and 140 seats, the Mahagathbandhan between 98 and 118, and poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party would end up between zero and two seats. Bihar recorded a historic voter turnout of 67.13%, the highest since 1951, as per ECI data. The Jana Suraj Party did not win a single seat in the Bihar legislative assembly elections. It is said that women voters turned out in greater numbers for the NDA due to Nitish Kumar’s welfare schemes.
Winner is NDA – Blame to EC
The Congress party attributed the victory of the NDA in Bihar to the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. The party will continue its campaign against the Election Commission regarding the SIR and other decisions. The row over SIR will be brought forward by the Congress.
