The Woman Who Inspired a Housing Revolution: Deputy CM Bhatti Remembers ‘Priyanka’
The Telangana Deputy Chief Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, recently recalled a woman named “Priyanka,” who is not the Congress top leader Priyanka Gandhi. This Priyanka is an ordinary woman who inspired the launch of the Indiramma Houses scheme in the state. Before the Congress government came to power, Bhatti Vikramarka, then the Leader of the Opposition, undertook the People’s Padayatra (foot march) across the state.
During his tour of Mudigonda Mandal, a woman named Priyanka approached him, pleading with folded hands for a home as she had no shelter. Deeply moved by her plight, Bhatti Vikramarka promised her, and all other poor families without a home, that the Congress government would build houses for them, providing Rs.5 lakh to each. True to that promise, after coming to power, the Congress government launched the Indiramma Houses scheme to build homes for the eligible poor.

Bhatti Vikramarka revisited these memories recently while extensively touring the Mudigonda Mandal in his Madhira constituency on Thursday. He met with Priyanka, inquired about her well-being, and later participated in the reconstruction program of a Kakatiyan-era Shiva temple and inspected the construction of Penugonda Sivakrishna and Nagamani’s Indiramma house in Gandhasiri village. During the subsequent public meeting, Bhatti fondly remembered Priyanka as the inspiration for the Indiramma Houses scheme. He confirmed that, as promised during the Padayatra, an “Indiramma House” has been allocated to Priyanka from Mudigonda Mandal. He also highlighted that the government is constructing Rs.4.5 lakh houses across the state, with 3,500 houses (in the first phase) allocated per Assembly constituency. He assured the public that the government would expedite bill payments as quickly as the beneficiaries construct their homes.

Aiming for 1 Crore Women Entrepreneurs
Furthermore, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka reiterated the government’s commitment to the advancement of women in Telangana. He stated that the Praja (People’s) government aims to turn one crore women into millionaires during its five-year tenure, focusing on making them entrepreneurs. To support this, they are providing interest-free loans so that women can live with self-respect. He pointed out that while the previous BRS government had cancelled the Indira Mahila Kranthi Pathakam, the current government immediately relaunched the interest-free loan scheme after coming to power. Bhatti emphasized that women have the power to uplift a family and promised all-around support and assistance to them.

A ‘Son of Madhira’ Working for the State
Speaking about the “Indira Mahila Dairy” in the Madhira constituency, which has 60,000 women members, the Deputy CM claimed it would become a model for the entire country. He mentioned the ongoing program to distribute two buffaloes to each woman member to establish this prestigious dairy. He expressed confidence that a day would come when people from across the country would visit Madhira to see the women-run Indira Dairy. Deputy CM Mallu Bhati Vikramarka concluded by assuring the people that wherever he is, his priority remains public welfare, and he would honor every vote cast by the people of Madhira by working for the welfare of the entire state as a “son of Madhira.”
