Plot Summary
The story centers on Maanav (Dharmendra), an honest and kind-hearted man, and his unlikely friendship with Gopichand (Shatrughan Sinha), a small-time thief. The two first meet during a train journey when Gopichand steals Maanav’s books, mistakenly believing they contain valuable items. Maanav follows Gopichand to recover his books. After they get off the moving train, Gopichand questions why Maanav values the books so highly. Maanav explains that they are more precious than money, as they are the source of knowledge a defining moment that sparks their bond.

Maanav takes it upon himself to reform Gopichand and guide him onto the right path. However, the thief’s old habits are hard to break. One day, Gopichand steals a purse from Kaajal (Hema Malini) to buy food for them both. When Maanav insists on knowing the source of the money, Gopichand reluctantly confesses to the robbery. Feeling deeply guilty over his friend’s actions, Maanav immediately goes to Kaajal’s house to return the stolen purse. Kaajal is moved by Maanav’s honesty and sense of responsibility. Expressing her gratitude, she eventually falls in love with him.
The film powerfully illustrates how genuine compassion and selflessness can inspire a fundamental change in a person’s life, highlighting the strong moral influence of Maanav on Gopichand.
