- Saffron party plans to win kepping 2028 assembly elections
“The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is taking the Jubilee Hills assembly segment by-election seriously, making significant efforts to prove its strength. The party sees a victory here as a crucial step toward its goal of flying the saffron flag in Telangana in the 2028 elections. The notification for the Jubilee Hills by-election is expected to be announced in the next day or two, coinciding with the Bihar assembly elections, with the polling likely scheduled between November 5 and 15.
Despite finishing a distant third with 25,866 votes in the 2023 general election, the BJP believes a win in Jubilee Hills is vital. The new BJP state president, N. Ramachandra Rao, reviewed the election strategy, providing direction to the party cadre. “Our party cadre has started moving into colonies and campaigning on the failures of both the Congress and BRS governments,” he stated. In the 2023 election, Maganti Gopinath won the seat for the BRS with a majority of 16,337 votes against Congress candidate Mohammad Azharuddin, with the BJP’s Lanka Dileep Reddy in third place.

Mr. Ramachandra Rao highlighted that the scams during the BRS regime, such as those related to the Kaleshwaram project, have damaged the party, and the BJP cadre will campaign on this issue. Regarding the Congress, he claimed that Jubilee Hills voters have been exposed to the “worst phase” of basic facilities, facing problems like power cuts, drainage issues, and the marooning of colonies due to floodwaters.
The by-election in Jubilee Hills is necessitated by the death of Maganti Gopinath, a three-time MLA, on June 8, 2025. He was elected in 2014 on a TDP ticket and in 2018 and 2023 as a BRS candidate. The BRS has decided to field Maganti Suneetha, and she has already begun campaigning in the colonies.
The Congress has left the candidate selection to the party’s high command. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed GHMC party leaders to formulate a winning strategy for Jubilee Hills. Following this, a brainstorming session was held at the residence of Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. The Minister affirmed that the AICC and TPCC are firm on winning the Jubilee Hills by-election.” (eom)
