Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, during his visit to the Wyra constituency on Saturday, shared a significant and emotional chapter from his early political career with thousands of people. He reminisced about the first time he was arrested and went to court, an event directly linked to solving the drinking and irrigation water problem of the people and farmers in the Wyra region.

As part of his tour, the Deputy CM laid the foundation stone for several major projects in the Wyra constituency. These included the construction of the Young India Integrated School on a 20-acre site, the establishment of seven 33/11 KV power substations in various mandals costing Rs. 18.46 crores, and road development works valued at Rs. 58.50 crores.
The First Arrest: A Stand for Water
Addressing the public meeting on this occasion, Bhatti Vikramarka recalled that in 2003, there was a major drought in this region, causing significant difficulty for farmers and the public in accessing water for irrigation and drinking. He mentioned that at that time, he and a few other young people organized large-scale protests to solve the problem, and successfully diverted the water that was flowing upwards by opening the canal locks at Enkoor into the Wyra Reservoir. He stated that this action helped provide drinking water for the people of the area and irrigation water for the fields.
“I remember that incident very well … That was the first time in my life I was arrested for the people and went to the police station,” he shared. “It was also the first time I stood in a court.” He further explained that these memories spurred him to act when the Congress party came to power in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. He sanctioned Rs. 42 crores for the lining of the Wyra Reservoir’s right and left canals, completing the first phase of work. Though attempts to finish the remaining lining were unsuccessful later, he announced that the Congress government has now sanctioned another Rs. 40 crores, with the works currently progressing.
Wyra Constituency: My Political Starting Point
Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized his inseparable bond with the Wyra constituency, stating that his political life began there. He asserted that he is familiar with every village, every person, and every problem in the area. This deep connection is why, immediately after becoming Deputy Chief Minister, he has been continuously working on development initiatives for the constituency, focusing special attention on the ongoing projects.
A Roadmap to 3 Trillion – Dollar: Telangana’s Economic Vision for 2047
The Deputy Chief Minister also outlined the state’s ambitious economic vision, stating that plans are being prepared for Telangana to compete globally with a 3 trillion-dollar economy by 2047. He expressed the government’s goal to compete not just with other Indian states but with developed countries worldwide. He affirmed the government’s dedication to this goal, ensuring that every rupee collected will be spent solely on public welfare. “This government is dedicated to the people,” he stated, adding that exploiters and middlemen will not be entertained. This, he confirmed, is a joint decision taken by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, himself as Deputy Chief Minister, and all their cabinet colleagues and legislators, with the aim of ensuring comprehensive development across the state.

Following the address, Bhatti Vikramarka distributed Indiramma sarees to women and handed over a bank linkage loan cheque worth Rs. 153.60 crores to members of 1456 Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The event was attended by several dignitaries, including TG NPDCL Chairman Karnati Varun Reddy, Khammam District Collector Anudeep Durishetty, Wyra MLA Maloth Ramdas Naik, former MLA Kondabala Koteswara Rao, former MLC Potla Nageswara Rao, State Warehousing Corporation Chairman Rayala Nageswara Rao, Handicrafts Corporation Chairman Naidu Satyanarayana, and DCCB Director Borra Rajasekhar.
