In an era where campaign promises usually vanish once the ballots are cast, announcing three fresh commitments only after securing the seat is a move that defies political tradition. It is definitely ‘unexpected leadership’.
Pagadala Ramadevi, the newly elected Sarpanch of Dammapeta, has surprised her voters. While most leaders make promises only before an election, she has announced three new goals to achieve after her victory. The village of Dammapeta was reserved for a woman candidate in the recent local elections. After winning the seat,

Ramadevi identified three main areas she wants to improve. She noticed that small business owners and vendors struggle to find a proper place to sell their goods. She plans to build a modern shopping complex on government land and will seek help from district ministers to fund the project.
During the holy month of Karthikamasam, many women visit the local Shiva temple but face a shortage of water for bathing and washing. To solve this, she has promised to build a dedicated pond at the temple site.
To support the health and energy of the local youth, she plans to set up a fitness center (gym). She believes this will help the younger generation stay fit and active. Ramadevi stated that she has already started working to turn these three promises into reality for the people of Dammapeta.

In an interview with Prime Post, the new Sarpanch Ramadevi shared her vision to make Dammapeta a “model village” in Telangana. She plans to achieve this goal with the support of several key leaders, including Tummala Nageswara Rao Minister for Agriculture and Marketing, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Minister for Revenue and Housing and Jare Adinarayana, Aswaraopeta MLA.
The local youth, who campaigned for her during the election, are very impressed with her leadership style and how she manages the village. Interestingly, the plan was originally different. Her husband, Pagadala Rambabu, had intended to run for Sarpanch himself. However, when the seat was reserved specifically for a woman candidate, Ramadevi stepped forward to contest the election instead. She is now working hard to fulfill her promises and transform the village.

Though the Dammapet is a major gram panchayat, but the election recalled assembly election. Jetti Venkateswara Rao, a small leader and command in social media helped her to reach his voice to all sections of the people through social media.
Her two promises in the social media like not collecting water and house tax has gone viral and reached all the sections. Her campaign focused on grassroots development, improvement of village infrastructure (roads and drainage), and ensuring that government welfare schemes reached the tribal and farming communities.
There are two versions of how Dammapet got its name. The first version suggests it is derived from the word ‘Dhanam’ (meaning wealth), which eventually became Dammapet. The second version suggests the name comes from ‘Dhammam’ (a Buddhist term meaning ‘To Uphold‘). Today, Dammapeta is famous for its Oil Palm plantations and mango orchards. It houses one of the state’s major Oil Palm processing units, making it an agro-industrial hub in the district.
