  1. This is a good one. Parallel cinema which was a surprise commercial hit. In the original script Om puri was supposed to commit suicide but the director changed it as it was depressing. Wise choice as the movie would have likely flopped.

    1. I don’t member I watched this film. Those days such films weren’t commercial hits though, were only available with entertainment tax free pass gifted to my father usually. so I was in lookout to watch the film and it went on without sparing time for that. The narration of the story here once again enlight me to view it now with lot more enthusiasm. Thank you for bringing up reviews of all classicals of yester years that are meant to be noteworthy.

  2. I have heard a great deal about this movie. I have seen Govind Nihalani’s other work, a series made for Doordarshan. Om Puri was the protagonist in that. Ardh Satya became a commercial hit because of its powerful narration and great performances by the great actors! We do not see such a mix of movies in today’s filmmaking: stories from the real world that put characters in a difficult position and challenge moral and ethical conflicts. The review here showcases the movie really well.

  3. A very different angry young man shown by Om Puri. It was considered a new version of Zanjeer sans the glamour. Smita
Patil a fresher in filmdom made her presence felt. The dialogues were loud but left their mark for the viewers.

  4. A thoughtful and powerful review — it beautifully captures the depth of Ardh Satya and its lasting impact on Indian cinema. The way it highlights Om Puri’s performance and the film’s moral conflict is truly commendable. Insightful and well-written!

  5. I saw the film during my college days. I felt the movie showed our life in the society. Particularly the insecurity a normal man faced. The cast performed well. I liked the movie
