A round table conference held at Somajiguda press club on Wednesday morning appealed to the Telangana government to name SRSP-2 (Pochampadu project) after Telangana peasants’ struggle hero Bhimreddy Narasimha Reddy.
Chaired by prominent journalist Varadalli Murali, the speakers reminded chief minister Revanth Reddy of BN’s struggle to bring Godavari waters to Nalgonda, Khammam, and Warangal districts, watering more than 4 thousand acres of land. They spoke about BN’s role in the Telangana armed struggle and the Pochampadu project. It was BN who insisted on Chandrababu Naidu to lay the foundation stone for SRSP-2, and he persuaded YS Rajasekhar Reddy to complete the project during his first term as CM.
They recalled that Damodar Reddy, after whom the project was named by the CM, himself suggested at BN’s condolence meeting that the Pochampadu project should be named after BN Reddy. A resolution was passed by the Round Table Conference appealing to the government not only to rename the project after BN but also to name Suryapet district after him and also to rename Mahatma Gandhi University as BN Reddy University.

Known as ‘Che Guevara of Telangana’, BN said he would die only after he tasted Godavari water. But he died a few months before the project was completed. When the Godavari water entered Pochampadu in February 2009, Latchiram Naik, a follower of BN, took a tumbler of water and went to BN’s grave in Karvirrala Kothagudem, BN’s native place, and cleaned it saying ‘I am pouring Godavari water into your grave, would you now come back, BN!’ Sudhakar Reddy said he was in the Tungaturti meeting where CM Revanth Reddy announced the name of Damodar Reddy. His wife, sitting beside him, commented that the people have already named the canal as ‘BN Reddy kaalva’, and how can the CM name it after Damodar Reddy?
Prominent persons among the speakers were: K Ramachandra Murthy, Goreti Venkanna, K Srinivas, Tankasala Ashok, Katta Sekhar Reddy, Allam Narayana, Dilip Reddy, Ved Kumar, Vijay Kumar Reddy, Ravikant Reddy, Degala Janardan, Prabhakar Reddy (son of BN), Venugopal Reddy, Sudhakar Reddy, Varadalli Venkateswarlu. Poet Gauri Shankar has invited the participants.
